Proper Eye Makeup Made Simple

By October 25, 2019No Comments

During makeup sessions, the eyes take up most of the hours because it can make or break your look. Eye makeup is a complicated task that many have to practice because of the different elements needed to achieve the perfect look. But some don’t have the extra time to attend seminars or tutorials. Here are the things you have to remember if you want to achieve beautiful eye makeup results.

Basic Eye Anatomy And What Product You Should Use

As simple as it looks, coloring the eye area requires extensive knowledge regarding the anatomy and the specific products used for each area. Manufacturers of different makeup brands make sure to include brushes and tools specially made for each eye area.

Part Of The Eye What You Should Know Tools To Use For Application
Inner Tearduct/ Corner It is between the inner area of the eye and the nose bridge. Artists use metallic shades, glitters, or sparkles to help brighten the eyes. You may also use the same color applied on the brow bone for uniformity. Small brushesPencil brushPacking eyeshadow brush
Eyelid (Inner, Middle, Outer) You may color all areas of the lid, or you can divide it into three parts: the inner, middle, and an outer portion. There is a term called the “outer v area” which corresponds to the edge of the upper lash line. It is like a sideways letter V. Small brush medium brush
Crease For beginners, use mid-tone shades first then apply dark shades for perfect blending. It is divided into two areas: slightly sunken crease and deep crease. Deep crease- shows when the eye is fully open. Use dark shades for this area. The slightly sunken crease- shows when the eye is closed. Use lighter shades for this area. Tapered crease brush comes in different sizes but you may use any.
Above Crease The area above the crease, going toward the brows. The area where creating a gradient happens. Choose lighter shades than the crease area to have the ombre or fading color for the perfect blended look. Tapered crease brush blending brush
Brow Bone The area is right under the eyebrow. Artists use matte or shimmer. Tones range from flesh colors to hues brighter than the person’s skin color. Soft, less dense type of brush
Upper Lash Line The area directly above the upper eyelashes. You may apply eyeliner on this portion. Eyeliner
Upper Waterline The area directly below the upper eyelashes.Watery portion of the eye. You may need to use a mirror to locate this area. Also known as the “upper rim.” Eyeliner
Lower Lash Line Directly under the lower eyelashes. You may put eyeliner or eye shadow. Eye linerSmall, pencil brush for the eye shadow

Always Use A Lash Curler

Using a lash curler may be difficult, especially if you’re uncomfortable with using contraptions near your eyes. But eyelash curlers instantly make your eyes look bigger and more awake. Remember that you should use a curler before applying mascara to avoid accidentally pulling a few strands of lashes which can be painful and uncomfortable. Here are simple steps you can follow if you’re trying curlers for the first time:

  1. Properly position the curler and ‘insert’ the lashes in between the rubber and metal portion.
  2. Measure the length of lashes entering the area between the rubber and metal. The lashes should be midway through.
  3. Slowly and gently squeeze the curler.
  4. Wait for five to ten seconds, then release.
  5. You may go for a natural look by curling the tips of the lashes.
  6. Apply mascara.

Double The Mascara Layer

Aside from curled lashes, thick and long eyelashes make a statement without trying too much. Most women prefer the natural look by using mascara, and they’re good to go. Makeup brands endorse mascaras that have two uses: to lengthen and volumize. Make sure you know which one you need.

For starters, here are steps you can follow to transform your lashes instantly:

  1. Curl your lashes.
  2. To lengthen: apply mascara at the base of the lashes.
  3. To volumize: apply mascara at the tip of the lashes.
  4. To add a flare effect: vertically hold the wand and apply mascara on the outer portion of the lashes.

Keep The Eye Area Clean Before Applying Eyeshadow

Many manufacturers offer a variety of products that make the application of makeup more smoothly. Products range from cotton, brushes, or curlers. To keep the eye area clean, you may use tape to avoid ‘eyeshadow fallout’ which is a common problem for makeup artists. Put tape directly under the eyes before applying shadow, and remove it afterward for a clean look.

Find Products That Complement Your Eye Color

There’s a reason why makeup artists carefully choose the eyeshadow or eyeliner shades according to the person’s eye color: to avoid looking like a palette and to accentuate the eyes. If you are using contacts, use the color guide below. Personally, I like their angel wing series contacts from TTDEYE. They look amazing. :

Fill In Your Eyebrows

Perfecting your eyebrows may be one of the most challenging parts when doing eye makeup. You have to achieve a natural look to avoid drawing attention to this portion of your face. This task requires accuracy and proper shading, as well as an excellent eye to produce symmetric brows. For starters, here are the steps you should follow when filling in brows:

  1. Use a spoolie and brush your brows in an upward direction.
  2. Start coloring in a light manner, follow the natural hair’s direction.
  3. Focus on the tail and color in darker.
  4. Use the spoolie and brush through the brow again.
  5. Check if the tail is sleek and thin. Use concealer to clean outer areas.

Keep It Clean Overall

Once you’re done applying eyeshadow, mascara, and filling in your brows, step back and check for possible smudges. Smudges can be a big hassle, especially if the artist had a hard time with the whole process. Starting over is not an option which is why you should always have micellar water with you. Dip a clean brush in micellar water and wipe away unwanted smudges.
