We live in a world where independence is the keyword. Codependency is fast vanishing and we like being self-sufficient. YouTube videos can teach us everything from doing our own plumbing to fixing wires.

Sometimes you also function as a handyman, with your own tools, ready to fix things, drill holes and take out old rusted screws and replace them with new ones. If you are into all this, an impact driver will literally save your life.

What is an impact driver?

If independence is what you want then an impact driver is what you need to buy from the hardware store. This driver is different from a hammer drill in ways more than one and uses a downward and sudden rotational force which is strong and loosens the nuts and bolts that are over-torqued (meaning, the force that causes an object to rotate along a given point-to-point. Here over torqued simply means that a screw might be way too tight) or are frozen due to the extreme corrosion.

Can you use an impact driver to drill holes?

Yes, you can but the question is, should you? You can use it to drill holes, however, it will not give you the perfect size and roundness and neither will it give you hole placement that is precise. However, it is used to drive in nails and screws.

A very important thing that must be kept in mind when using impact drivers is the material it is being used on. Using it to drill holes on wood is not a good idea. The sheer pressure of it can break the wood into two parts because extraneous power kicks in at any time.

What are the pros of using an impact driver?

  1. It can power screw through the tough and dense material with repeated blows and more torque.
  2. You won’t feel tired. This is because the impact hammer plummets into the bolts and the work is done fast. This leads to minimal wrist train because of the entirely automated process.
  3. Very little effort is required because long screws can be shoved in with ease.
  4. It is extremely portable which makes fitting it into the tiniest of places, as easy as it can get.
  5. Stripping screws will be more or less eliminated.

However, it also has a few negatives attached to it:

  1. It creates a lot of noise which makes using this for long periods of time very difficult.
  2. It is more expensive than most drills and drills like equipment.
  3. If you are into delicate works and require precision, this tool is not your cup of tea. It’s more sturdy and deals with hardy items.

It’s a very handy tool to have which can be seen because the list of it’s pros us exhaustive and the cons are seemingly limited. If a powerful machine that will do your work in a fast rustic manner, a hand impact driver is what you should go for at this very minute.
