In Vedic Astrology, the planets Rahu and Ketu are said to be malefic planets and they are both parts of the same entity and are known to be shadow planets. Rahu is one of the planets which people fear because if Rahu in a native’s birth chart(Horoscope) is not good then it means the native is going to go through a time of struggle, misery, distress when nothing goes right. Rahu is about the past Karmas of an individual.

Among the Rahu Doshas the most feared is the Kaal Sarp Dosh or Yog/Yoga. Kaal means time and Sarp means snake or serpent. Symbolically Rahu is said to be the head of the snake and Ketu the tail and so Rahu is labeled as a planet which eats away into the native’s life.  The dreaded Kaal Sarp Dosh is formed when a natal chart has all the other 7 planets placed between Rahu and Ketu, which effectively means that one half of the birth chart does not have any planets. If all houses situated between Rahu and Ketu have planets then it is known as a complete Kaal Sarp Dosh/Yog. There are Ascending and Descending Kaal Sarp Dosh. If all the seven planets are nearRahu’s mouth(snake’s mouth which eats) then it is called Ascending Kaal Sarp Yog and if the 7 planets are situated at the back of Rahu or the snake head then it is called Descending Kaal Sarp Yog

The Kaal Sarp Dosh affects the natives mentally, emotionally, and physically thereby affecting health, wealth, career, job, marriage, friendship, and every other aspect of life negatively. The secretive nature of the planet gives rise to such situations, there are sudden things which happen, hidden enemies are active, plotting and scheming are rife, hard work leads to no gain or success, delays in things to happen, and many other such woes. However, it can be a surprise to many to know that it is not necessary that the Kaal Sarp Dosh is negative and catastrophic, this is because there are 12(twelve) different types of Kaal Sarp Dosh, so that needs to be taken into consideration as each of the 12 Kaal Sarp Dosh/Yog has Rahu and Ketu positioned in different houses of the birth chart or Kundali. This means that each type of Kaal Sarp Yoga has a different aspect of life which is effected more, so, there are some good things which to occur, another important point is the clockwise and anticlockwise movements of the Yog/Yoga which can have some positive effects or negative for the native. A surprising fact about Kaal Sarp Dosh/Yogis that many who have risen to fame, higher position, established in ruling portfolios(Prime Minister/
President) during the phase of Kaal Sarp Dosh/Yog.
